What's New

Computing the Sky Background
December 20, 2006
How a program computes the sky background is critical to the reliability and repeatability of photometry measurements. Read how Canopus (and all MPO programs) handle this problem.
New BRT*.ZIP and FAVYEARS.ZIP files
December 20, 2006
The BRT*.ZIP files contain the five brightest apparitions for all numbered asteroids (1 - 145,705) from 1950 through 2050.

The FAVYEARS.ZIP file breaks the same information by year.

9.2.2.0 Update for all MPO Software
December 18, 2006
This is an incremental update of all MPO programs: MPO Canopus/PhotoRed, SBScripter 5/6, MPO Connections, and MPO 2007 Asteroid Viewing Guide. This update includes the corrected OPPSCYR.FF2 file for MPO 2007 users. Click here for update details.
Making Plots for the Minor Planet Bulletin

Special Edition of MPO Canopus ships with SBIG ST-402ME Photometry Package.

June 1, 2006

Starting June 1, SBIG is including, at no extra charge, a special edition of MPO Canopus with the new purchase of the photometric package of the ST-402ME.

The special version of Canopus is also available to those new purchases of other cameras. A certificate included with the camera allows the buyer to receive a free copy of the special version of MPO Canopus at no additional charge (redeemed through SBIG).

SBIG is now providing a special package of the ST-402ME that includes BVI+C filters. This makes a great "beginner's kit" for those on a budget wanting to do science with their telescopes and a CCD camera.

The ST-402 was featured in a paper in the proceedings of the recent Society for Astronomical Sciences annual Symposium (http://www.SocAstroSci.org) where two of them were used with a modified flip-mirror attachment to create a "dual-channel photometer" that could observe a single target in two colors at the
same time.

For more information about this special offer, visit the SBIG site at
