Date of maximum brightness, magnitude at brightest, approximate declination when brightest

Date of closest approach to Earth, distance at closest approach

From this database, data on the five brightest apparitions was gathered, and then filtered once more. To be considered a favorable opposition and to make the final list, the following criteria had to be met for each asteroid:

Range of brightest magnitudes (brightest to faintest):  >= 1.0m

Brightest for a given year: 0.7m or brighter than average of brightest and faintest (faintest + brightest) / 2

 

Asteroids Included: Numbered as of October 1, 2007 (1 - 178283)

The number of each asteroid having an apparition in the given year and meeting the above criteria were written to the final file. For example::
